Fil's inspiration and passion comes from God's creation, word and everyday life. She approaches her work with a spirit of joy in creating something from nothing.
Fil often quotes... " As in life, art is a journey of constant learning and an awareness that the greatest masterpiece of your being is always at work... we are all HIS masterpieces in progress!"
Fil was born in Johannesburg in 1961, (nee Christofilia Dellas) and grew up in Congo, Greece and Zimbabwe, where she completed her schooling and training. Her love of art began from an early age, attending extra art lessons with well known Zimbabwean Greek artist Helen Lieros, gaining an O and A Level Certificate in Art & Craft in 1979. In 1981, She completed a Diploma in Commercial Art and Design at Studio 1 Graphics with Jim Spencer. Her early career was in graphic design and illustrating for various publishing and printing firms in Harare and Pretoria, before moving to Cape Town in 1986 with her husband Andre and their son Peter. The next ten years Fil 's new career of parenthood became her main focus and joy in raising Peter and Angela.
Her art career has been colourful, winning various awards, completing some fun projects and numerous commissioned works, including the 2001 Cow Parade in Cape Town. Her paintings hang in private collections in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Greece, Italy, UK, Scotland, New Zealand, USA & China.
Fil exhibits annually at Kirstenbosch Gardens with the Constantiaberg Art Society, and has been invited several times to exhibit in a small group at the Lindberg Art Foundation in Muizenberg. She had her first successful solo exhibition in 2004 from her home studio. Fil's second solo exhibition "Hope" was at the Masque Theatre in June/July 2008, she also painted the stage mural for the production The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Commissions are her most rewarding works as she creates a personal composition from a couple of snapshots that her clients supply from a memorable landscape holiday or a favourite pet portrait, murals and even abstract works. Inspirational verses have often led Fil to some of her best paintings.
In May 2006, Fil completed her 100th painting. This gracious journey took nine years. Her passion, perseverance and faith kept her motivated, also the support and encouragement from her wonderful husband, family and friends.
Turning 45 in 2006, inspired her to a new beginning in giving of her knowledge and experience in the form of oil painting workshops for adult beginners. The response has been positive, enjoyable, fun and educational for artists of all ages and levels. From July 2006, over 70 artists ages 21 to 85 have attended workshops with Fil. What started as a short project, is now Fil's new found passion and calling! With each workshop her artists grow in confidence, style and technique showing how versatile the beautiful medium of oils can be.
Thank you to all of you for your support and warm wishes. May your creative journey of life continue to be inspirational in every way...... remember we are all HIS masterpieces in progress!
